Hi! My name is Gemma. Some years ago I quit my job as a translator to pursue a life in mahjong. I moved to Tokyo and started taking lessons with the Japan Professional Mahjong League with the goal of taking the exam to become a certified professional. I made that dream come true in 2013.
After spending some time in Japan, I decided that my contribution would be better spent using my language and cultural skills by contributing to mahjong outside of Japan. I returned to the UK and worked on making the World Riichi Championship the premier brand and event in the international Japanese mahjong space.
